A few of your points need clarification:

* This server is not infected, just swamped. The comment-spam issue is having the same effect on MT servers everywhere (see http://www.movabletype.org/news/2004/12/comment_spam_load_issue.shtml), even servers running MT3. They apparently issued an update 10 days ago which is supposed to fix the issue for MT3 installs.

* MT version 2.661 running this site is not several years out of date, but was, in fact, released earlier this year (2004). MT 3.1 was officially launched on August 31st, 2004. So, the MT install on this server is 4 months out-of-date. Ironically, the Frontier/Manila install I'm running on this server is about 4 years out of date, but is unaffected by the comment spam (having always required registration for comments) and, apart from suffering lack of processor time due to Perl-based MT executing countless rebuilds, is running smoothly.

* Without a doubt, the regular inaccessibility of your site and my other sites is a royal bamboo-chute pain up the proverbial fingernail. Even with all the outages, however, your Site Meter Traffic Prediction page still predicts you'll get between 360 and 720 visits over the next month. Considering how frequently this server is overrun by comment spammers, that suggests to me that your core readership (of which I am a part) is loyal. We'll keep coming back. So, have more faith in us and quit thinking of us as statistics. "I am a person, not a number!" Ok, a huge JUST KIDDING on that last bit... ...b/c I won't ever read your site again... I KID! I KID! :D Just trying to lighten the mood a little bit here.

Hang in there. MT3 on this server is not as far away as you think. I'll keep you posted. If I am able to post...
