Rapid Prototyping machines (professional models of the RepRap) are now cheaper than laser printers were in 1985. Now I just want one of these:

You, clearly, did not pay for any laser printers in 1985, or you wouldn’t want to buy one of these now.
Seriously, great stuff. Neat to see that this one does both the drill-bit, destructive stuff and extrusion construction.

Heh, you’re right. I did, however, have a friend who bought one of the first Laserwriters for $5k. He also spent about $4k on a mac setup and Finale. That $9,000 investment seemed like a lot until I realized that he was the only guy around who could turn out professionally typeset music files. He made a killing for several years as a transcriptionist for the music industry and is still involved in Nashville.
It’s just knowing where to spend your money, being the first mover, and praying you’re right.
I can’t wait to have an RP machine. As soon as it gets down to around $1,000 I’m going to have to beg, borrow, and, yes, even WORK to earn the money to get one. I can’t wait!
