It looks like Cox internet is upgrading the speed of our cable modems to 4mb down for no charge. I’ll report back on how the service is.

Why the Internet is Cool

I finished a book a few months ago, and the author provided his email address in the afterword. On a whim, and because I had enjoyed the book, I shot him a quick email of thanks and encouragement (he’s a fairly new writer), and forgot about it.
Fast forward to tonight. I open my email program to discover that this writer has written me back, thanked me for my comments, and told me about his new book! Not like meeting Steve Tyler at a restaurant (Jennifer), or coming across Neil Armstrong in a business meeting (happened to me), but still, pretty cool for a fanboy like me.
I also sent a short snailmail letter to David Pogue for his excellent Finale manual (yes, I wrote the author of a software manual a fan letter…. I’m a geek). I got a really nice personal letter back a few weeks later. David Pogue has gone on to much bigger things, but, *sigh*, we’ll always have the Finale 4.0 Encyclopedia.
