The rapid progress true science now makes occasions my regretting sometimes that I was born so soon. It is impossible to imagine the Height to which may be carried, in a thousand years, the Power of Man over Matter. We may perhaps learn to deprove large Masses of their Gravity, and give them absolute Levity, for the sake of very easy transport. Agriculture may diminish its Labour and double its Produce; all Diseases may, by sure means, be prevented or cured, not even excepting that of Old Age, and our Lives lengthened at pleasure even beyond the antediluvian Standard. O that moral Science were in as fair a way of Improvement, that Men would cease to be Wolves to one another, and that human Beings would at length learn what they now improperly call Humanity.

Benjamin Franklin, 1780 (in a letter to Joseph Priestly)

Yeah, Ben. I live in that future you saw so dimly, and yet I still can’t help but wonder what things will be like in 100 years. Grass is always greener on the far end of the timeline.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

No, I’m not leaving again. As a result of a frustrating morning (insurance stuff and dealing with the aftermath of Erin’s new car getting rear-ended whilst coming home from work on Monday), I threw up my hands and decided to invoke the Self Employment “RESET” button. I tossed responsibility out the studio window and went solo to the Cinemark to see Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy”. I’ve read the books, and they’re great. If you go to the movie expecting to see every clever witticism of Douglas Adams’ creation, you may be disappointed. If, however, you go to see python-like silliness (singing dolphins), Brazil-like surrealism (the main characters as yarn people?), and stereotypical British stiff upper lips, you won’t be disappointed.

“Do you know how much damage this bulldozer will sustain if I let it run over you?”
“None at all”

I sat in the nearly empty movie theater giggling while the silly thing played out. Just the thing if you’re ferklempt.

Fun little game. I scored 245 and almost broke into the top ranks. Got a goose egg on two or three.
