Deep Dark Secrets

“Iā€™m overwhelmed with the urge to share a dark, dirty literary secret: that I not only read science fiction, I love it, I learn from it ā€” and I think you should too.”

Science Fiction is a Genre that Everyone Should Read.

  1. Nice! The only thing, though, is that it shouldn’t be a deep dark secret, or any secret at all. Maybe a generation ago educated people looked down on (or wanted to be thought of as looking down on) SF ā€” but today you’re just as likely to see le Guin and Asimov and Garth Nix and l’Engle right alongside Joyce and Dickens and St. Augustine, as they are on my shelf.

  2. Just read his thing on neckties too! May of 2008 was a great time for me. Cate was out of town and it was near my birthday, and we’d only brought 4 changes of clothes for 6 months, so I went clothes shopping. I went to one of the markets (better, in my opinion, than the Pearl Market), and came back with 30 ties. Now that was a great day.
